Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026 · Applies to couchtv.whitebalance.de and CouchTV on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV

Protecting your personal data is important to us. CouchTV is deliberately designed to minimise data processing: the app requires no user account, contains no tracking or analytics services and processes DVB-C television content directly on your home network. This policy explains which data may nevertheless be processed for technical reasons when you use the website or app.

1. Data Controller

Controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

white balance – projects pool agency GmbH
Kreuzstr. 72
28203 Bremen
Germany

Phone: +49 421 369540
Email: Show email address

No data protection officer has been appointed because the legal requirements for mandatory appointment do not apply.

2. Data Processing on This Website

2.1 Server logs

When you access this website, your browser technically transmits data which may be stored in server logs:

Processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is ensuring the technical operation, stability and security of the website, including protection against misuse and attacks. Logs are not combined with other data and are automatically deleted after no more than 30 days unless a security incident requires longer retention.

2.2 No cookies or tracking

This website uses no cookies, analytics or statistics services, social-media plug-ins or external web fonts. No tracking or profiling takes place.

2.3 Contact by email

If you contact us by email, we process the information you provide, such as your email address, message and name, solely to respond to your enquiry. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where the enquiry concerns a contract, such as an app purchase, and otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The information is deleted when it is no longer required, subject to statutory retention obligations.

3. Data Processing in CouchTV

3.1 Local processing

CouchTV works without transmitting personal usage data to us. No CouchTV account or registration is required. Settings, favourites, channel lists and electronic programme guide data are stored locally on your device. Only if you enable the optional iCloud sync are the configuration items described in section 3.2 also stored in your personal iCloud account. We operate no server containing this information and cannot access your viewing activity.

3.2 Optional iCloud sync

You can voluntarily enable Apple Account sync in the app settings. CouchTV then stores only FRITZ!Box and custom stream sources, including their URLs, plus your favourites and their order in Apple’s private iCloud key-value store. Downloaded channel lists, electronic programme guide data, playback state, purchases and free-tier time budgets are not synced. The information is used only to make your CouchTV configuration available on your Apple devices; we cannot access it. Processing begins only after you enable the option and can be stopped at any time in the app settings. Apple’s privacy policy and iCloud terms also apply to storage in your iCloud account: apple.com/legal/privacy.

3.3 Communication with the FRITZ!Box

FRITZ!Box discovery, retrieval of DVB-C channel lists and playback of television and radio channels take place directly between your device and FRITZ!Box on the local home network. Television content and programme information do not leave your home network and are not visible to us.

3.4 Custom internet streams

When you play a stream URL that you added on a supported device, the device connects directly to the relevant provider. The provider technically receives the IP address of the internet connection. We have no control over this processing; the provider’s own privacy policy applies. We receive no information about which stream is watched.

CouchTV provides no stream URLs or public channel list and does not search for internet streams. Every internet source is entered by you; only add sources you are authorised to use.

3.5 App Store purchases

CouchTV Pro purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive no payment or personal purchase information. The app only uses Apple’s StoreKit interface to verify whether a valid purchase entitlement exists. Apple’s privacy policy is available at apple.com/legal/privacy.

3.6 App Store rating prompt

On iPhone and iPad, the app may use Apple’s system prompt to ask for an App Store rating. The operating system controls whether and when it appears. Any rating is submitted to Apple; we receive no personal data through the prompt.

4. Your Rights

Subject to the applicable legal requirements, your rights may include:

To exercise these rights, contact us using the email address above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Our competent authority is:

Die Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit der Freien Hansestadt Bremen
Arndtstraße 1, 27570 Bremerhaven, Germany
datenschutz.bremen.de

5. Data Security

This website uses TLS/HTTPS encryption. Local app information remains within protected application storage. When iCloud sync is enabled, Apple’s iCloud infrastructure handles transfer and storage of the selected configuration data.

6. No Automated Decision-Making

No automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR takes place.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy if the app’s functionality or applicable law changes. The current version is available at couchtv.whitebalance.de/privacy.html.
